The presence of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah with Trabzonspor has no longer been just a technical addition limited to the green rectangle; it has quickly transformed into a remarkable marketing and cultural phenomenon. In the latest chapter of this influence, the Turkish club launched an unconventional product that responded to the Pharaohs’ captain’s desire, offering its fans a headpiece inspired by Pharaonic heritage, in a step that blends the richness of Egyptian civilization with the identity of the maroon and blue club.
According to Turkish reports, the idea for this cover came to embody the origins of the 34-year-old “Pharaoh,” as it was designed in the style of ancient Egyptian headdresses, incorporating the club’s two famous colors, along with the Trabzonspor logo on the front. The club made the new piece available through its official stores, “TS Club,” in two different sizes, priced at around 1700 Turkish lira (equivalent to approximately 34 US dollars).
This innovative move aligns with the significant momentum that the city of Trabzon has been experiencing since Salah’s arrival, a momentum that has gone beyond typical fan support. Unique displays of celebration have been captured by cameras, including a fan dressed in a pharaonic costume accompanied by a camel in front of the stands of “Papara Park” stadium. The numbers confirm this marketing explosion, as the team’s shirt sales jumped to over 116,000 shirts within just two months of the Egyptian star joining the ranks, compared to 46,000 shirts sold during the same period last year.
On the technical front, Salah continues to leave his mark with the team, the latest being his leadership of Trabzon to a valuable victory over Scottish Hearts with a score of two goals to none in the European Conference League; he opened the scoring from the penalty spot, paving the way for the second consecutive continental victory after overcoming the obstacle of Finnish QBS previously.
Salah has played 8 matches in the Turkish league so far, scoring one goal and assisting two for his teammates. Fans are eagerly awaiting his next appearance in a mini-derby against Çaykur Rizespor tomorrow, Monday, to continue the winning streak, before hosting Gaziantep at the beginning of next month, and then heading toward an anticipated European clash against Freiburg on November 5.
