Hussein Ammouta, the Moroccan head coach of Al Ahly, has put an end to the ongoing controversy surrounding the exclusion of midfielder Emam Ashour from recent matches. The manager delivered a decisive message to the player regarding the standards required to wear the team’s shirt in upcoming fixtures, following his absence from the games against Uganda’s Kitara and Modern Sport.
According to an informed source within Al Ahly, the Moroccan manager has stipulated that Ashour must give maximum effort in training and restore his usual technical form before being considered for matchday squads again. Ammouta emphasized that selection is based entirely on performance on the pitch, rather than stardom or market value.
In recent days, a private meeting took place between Ammouta and Emam Ashour in the presence of Sporting Director Wael Gomaa. During the session, the head coach clarified that the player’s current performance level does not entitle him to a starting spot, stressing in no uncertain terms that Al Ahly does not rely on any single individual, but moves forward with those who make a real impact.
The coaching staff refused to make any preliminary promises regarding when Ashour will play next, insisting that the decision remains strictly dependent on his physical and technical response in upcoming training sessions-especially after a drop in form led to his recent omission. These developments come at a sensitive time for the Red Devils as they prepare to face Al Mokawloon Al Arab in the League Cup, followed by a Round of 32 clash in the Egypt Cup against the winner of the match between Al Nasr and El Sekka El Hadid.
