The last few hours have seen a state of turmoil within the halls of Zamalek Club, following the revelation of details regarding the incident where three first-team players misbehaved during the team’s recent trip to Rwanda. This crisis has put the football management and fans in direct confrontation with the players’ irresponsible behavior off the field.
According to exclusive sources from within Zamalek, the details of the incident began when the administrative staff gave the players the green light to take a quick and free shopping tour at one of the commercial centers near the team’s residence in Rwanda to buy some gifts. However, the trio (Ahmed Fattouh, Mostafa El-Zanaty, and Ahmed Sherif) decided to separate from their teammates and head to a nightclub to spend the nite there without obtaining any prior permission, ignoring the strict instructions governing the team’s external camps.
Immediately, the football director “Abdel Nasser Mohamed” took action as soon as he was informed of the details of what happened. He decided to impose severe financial penalties on the three players to establish discipline and protect the stability of the locker room, while issuing a stern warning about the possibility of freezing them out and excluding them from technical considerations for an indefinite period if such behavior is repeated. The technical and administrative staff also preferred to limit the penalties to financial fines for the time being, considering the pressure of upcoming matches and continental and local commitments.
The repercussions of the matter did not stop at the confines of closed rooms, as news leaked to Zamalek fans, some of whom were in Rwanda and observed the players. This led to an outburst of widespread discontent, spearheaded by left-back Ahmed Fattouh, due to the recurrence of such crises around him and his fluctuating performance recently.
The tension reached its peak in the return match against the Rwandan army at Cairo Stadium; despite Zamalek qualifying for the group stage of the African Champions League with a clean goal scored by Ahmed Sherif, and confirming their superiority with a total score of two goals to none, jeers and boos from the stands targeted Fattouh. This was exacerbated by reports indicating that the player made an inappropriate gesture toward some angry fans in response to their criticisms.
Zamalek Club is facing decisive challenges with the anticipation of the group stage draw and the continuation of the Premier League journey, placing the trio, led by Fattouh, in a complex test to rebuild bridges of trust with the fans and the coaching staff. Meanwhile, the management emphasizes that it will not tolerate any misconduct that could destabilize the team in the future.
