Barcelona’s technical management has finalized its decision regarding Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim ahead of the Catalan club’s upcoming UEFA Champions League Matchday 4 clash against Aston Villa at the Spotify Camp Nou.
According to Catalan outlet Sport, Barcelona officials-in coordination with manager Hansi Flick-have decided to assign Hamza Abdelkarim to the U19 youth squad under head coach Pol Planas. The youth team faces a crucial match of its own against Aston Villa’s youth side in the UEFA Youth League, aiming to secure direct qualification and avoid complex playoff scenarios.
Abdelkarim was not the only player affected by this decision. The move also includes young player Touncara, who was ineligible for the first team’s European squad due to administrative regulations requiring a player to have been at the club for two consecutive years since turning 15. As for the Egyptian striker, the technical staff believes playing in the youth team will grant him more playing time and valuable experience in high-intensity European competition, especially with Flick’s attacking options fully restored following the returns of Raphinha and Gabriel Jesus.
It is worth noting that Hamza Abdelkarim has made brief appearances for Barcelona’s first team in La Liga this season against Getafe and Rayo Vallecano, and he also scored for the reserve team against Utebo-making him one of the promising future prospects the club’s hierarchy aims to develop through continental exposure.
