Barcelona management has placed Argentine defender Lisandro Martínez, currently playing for Manchester United, on their radar ahead of a potential move during the January transfer window. This move comes as the coaching staff seeks to secure additional defensive depth and address squad shortages caused by a recent wave of injuries in the backline.
According to Spanish publication Sport, the Catalan club’s pursuit of the deal remains entirely conditional on flexible financial terms. Financial restrictions on the club’s budget necessitate that any operation be completed at a low cost so as not to strain Barcelona’s finances mid-season.
In a related context, the board may find itself forced to accelerate the sale or loan of certain current squad members before proceeding with complex negotiations. This would free up liquidity and adjust the wage cap, allowing the club to register new signings to support their title push in the second half of the season.
However, Barcelona’s task will not be easy. The Argentine international’s contract with the English club runs until the summer of 2027, with an option for Manchester United to extend it for an additional year-giving the Red Devils the upper hand in determining the player’s fate and market value.
