The Premier League has, throughout its history, left a clear mark with a huge number of legends from the African continent, who have left behind a great legacy and exceptional performances that adorned the fields of England. Since the launch of the competition in its new form in the 1992-1993 season, when Zimbabwean star Peter Ndlovu made the first African appearance and scored the continent’s first goal against Sheffield Wednesday, African stars have continued to make history.
The story didn’t stop at the beginnings; it extended to include names whose talents have etched themselves in the memories of fans, such as the gifted Jay-Jay Okocha with Bolton, the legend Nwankwo Kanu with Arsenal, the midfield machine Yaya Toure with Manchester City, as well as the all-time top scorer for the Blues Didier Drogba, and the standout scorer for Liverpool Mohamed Salah.
The Nigerian star “Alex Iwobi” continued to make history by reaching his 328th match in the English Premier League, sharing the second spot in the list of most appearances by African players with the Egyptian star “Mohamed Salah.” This achievement came after Iwobi played for Fulham in the match that the team won with a clean sheet, recalling the memories of his early beginnings given to him by coach Arsène Wenger in an Arsenal jersey in 2015, through his remarkable experience with Everton, and up to his current station.
The Ivorian star “Kolo Touré” tops the list of the most appearances by an African player in Premier League history with 353 matches. Touré’s historic journey began with Arsenal in 2002 when he won the historic unbeaten title with the Gunners, before adding another title to his career with Manchester City, inscribing his name in golden letters as the African player with the most appearances in the competition.
