A new crisis has emerged over the coming hours, putting Cairo International Stadium’s hosting of the highly anticipated match between Zamalek and Tunisia’s Club Africain in jeopardy. The fixture is set to kick off both teams’ group-stage campaigns in the CAF Champions League.
Zamalek is preparing to host its Tunisian opponent on November 28 in the Egyptian capital. However, the White Knight’s plans clash with the stadium management’s schedule, as authorities have officially decided to close the sports complex starting November 25 to carry out routine maintenance and replace the pitch turf with winter seeds.
According to sources, both parties have resorted to government intervention to resolve the scheduling conflict. A source stated: “Both Zamalek and Cairo International Stadium have reached out to the Minister of Youth and Sports to present the situation. Currently, Cairo International Stadium remains firm on its stance to close from November 25 until December 20. Therefore, the matter has been referred to the minister; if he approves delaying the stadium’s closure until after the Zamalek and Club Africain match, the decision will be made under his responsibility.”
The White Castle faces a demanding journey in the continental tournament after being drawn into Group B alongside Club Africain (Tunisia), Mouloudia Club d’Alger (Algeria), and Young Africans (Tanzania). Securing their preferred home ground remains a crucial factor at the start of their African campaign.
