Moroccan winger Reda Slim, currently on Al Ahly’s books, has suffered a major setback regarding his next destination. Maghreb de Fès definitively denied any intention of signing him during the upcoming winter transfer window, putting an end to reports linking the player with a return to the Moroccan league.
This decisive stance came directly from Idriss Saber, the official spokesperson for Maghreb de Fès, who confirmed that his club has not entered into any negotiations with the Al Ahly winger, emphasizing that recent rumors have no basis in reality. In televised remarks, Saber stated clearly: “There are no negotiations to sign Reda Slim in January-neither directly nor indirectly. Reda is currently not playing for Al Ahly anyway, so on what basis would we sign him?”
Saber added that his club’s management is solely targeting players who are physically and technically match-ready to make an immediate impact. He questioned the logic of recruiting a player who has been completely sidelined from official competition with his current club. These statements place the Moroccan winger in a highly complex position, particularly after returning to Al Ahly early last summer following the conclusion of his loan spell at AS FAR.
Despite his return, Slim has found himself completely out of head coach Houcine Ammouta’s tactical plans. He has failed to feature in any matchday squads since the start of the season due to the coaching staff’s lack of conviction in his role within their project. Being left out of Ammouta’s plans has prompted Al Ahly officials to urgently seek a way to part ways with the player-either through a permanent sale in the January window or via a mutual contract termination. The primary goal is to free up a foreign player slot on the roster to satisfy the head coach’s priorities, which center on reinforcing the central defense and midfield.
Reda Slim is under contract with Al Ahly until the summer of 2027, having joined the club in the summer of 2023 from AS FAR. However, his tenure has not gone as expected; injuries and limited playing time prevented him from establishing himself, leaving him with just 44 appearances, 5 goals, and 3 assists in an Al Ahly shirt. He subsequently moved on loan to AS FAR in August 2025, where he scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists across 39 matches. Al Ahly’s management is now in a race against time to reach an agreement that ends their association with the player without incurring heavy financial losses, aiming to resolve this pending file and avoid continuing to pay a high salary to a player who remains off the pitch.
