The technical staff of Saudi club Al-Ittihad is living through a state of anxiety and anticipation following a severe injury sustained by Colombian professional Richard Ríos during their match against Abha in Week 12 of the Saudi Pro League.
In an official statement, the club announced the results of the medical examinations undergone by the player, explaining that MRI scans revealed a severe left ankle sprain along with damage to the fibular ligament. This update has raised significant concern within the club regarding the length of time the player will be sidelined.
Regarding the expected recovery period, medical experts weighed in to outline the potential timeframe for his absence. The Colombian midfielder’s return depends primarily on the exact grading of the ligament damage and the severity of the sprain. Thamer Al-Shahrani, a sports injury specialist, revealed via his official account on the “X” platform that Ríos’ absence will correlate directly with the grade of the injury.
Al-Shahrani explained that a Grade 1 injury might keep the player out of action for two to three weeks. He added that if the injury is classified as Grade 2, the recovery period could extend to anywhere between six and eight weeks.
