The Turkish city of Trabzon is witnessing an unprecedented level of excitement coinciding with the presence of the Egyptian star “Mohamed Salah,” as the Yomra district has taken an exceptional step reflecting the status of the “Egyptian King” and his wide influence both on and off the field.
In statements by Mr. “Mustafa Beyik,” the mayor of the Yomra district in Trabzon, he revealed the details of a historic decision to name the street leading to the residence of Mohamed Salah in the town, affirming that this honor is in appreciation of his significant sports and humanitarian value.
Mayor Beyik explained that the local council unanimously approved the proposal to name the street after Salah, noting that Turkish regulations require consulting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs when naming streets after foreign figures. Unlike the usual lengthy review periods for such procedures, the Turkish Foreign Ministry approved the request within just one week, in recognition of the global stature of the Egyptian national team captain.
This precedent is the first of its kind in Turkey, as it is the first time a street has been named after a foreign football player. The mayor considered it a symbol of strengthening the ties between the Egyptian and Turkish peoples, as well as a direct recognition of the player’s sports and social value.
The mayor of Yomra pointed out an interesting paradox; the chosen street is the daily route Salah takes when returning home, which means he will constantly see the signs bearing his name. He confirmed that the production of the street’s guiding signs is being completed after receiving the final ministerial approval, which will take about 20 days. An official invitation will be extended to the player and his family to attend the inauguration and celebration ceremony. He also confirmed that the municipal authorities supervised the preparation and renovation works of the player’s house to ensure a comfortable and ideal stay.
Mustafa Piyek sent a message to the fans in Egypt, confirming that Salah receives the best care and hospitality possible, emphasizing that there is no need for concern about him, as the Egyptian star quickly integrated with the values and customs of the local community, which sets him apart from many foreign stars.
