A report stated that the Tunisian club Espérance de Tunis succeeded in achieving significant financial gains with the start of their journey in the African Champions League for the 2026-2027 season, following a strong return of the continental tournament after a continuous absence of seven years, culminating their efforts with a qualification to the group stage.
This well-deserved ascent came after the Bab Jedid team triumphed over the Congolese Mazembe at the Rades Stadium with a clean goal, benefiting from their positive draw of one goal each in the first leg match in the city of Lubumbashi. This marks their third historical appearance in this advanced stage after the 1997 and 2019 editions. The team, under the technical leadership of coach Maher Kanzari, began their continental journey in the first preliminary round by eliminating the Malian Djoliba with an aggregate score of three goals to two.
The outcome of participation in the preliminary rounds:
Playing 4 matches: The team won 2 matches and 2 matches ended in a draw.
The official qualification bonus from the African Football Confederation (CAF): 700,000 US dollars, designated for the 16 clubs that reach the group stage.
Digital broadcasting revenues through the club’s platform: approximately 550,000 Tunisian dinars (around 175,000 dollars) resulted from the exclusive transmission of the matches against Djoliba and Mazembe.
Total financial revenue: Approached 900,000 US dollars, which is approximately 2.65 million Tunisian dinars.
The representative of Tunisian football enters the draw for the group stage in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, and is placed in the fourth tier alongside the Cameroonian club Colombe, the Moroccan club FUS Rabat, and the Angolan club Wiliet. This situation puts him in the position of potentially facing prominent first-tier competitors on the continent, such as Esperance Tunis, RS Berkane, Zamalek, or Pyramids from Egypt.
