Press reports have revealed that Manchester United are facing a real predicament regarding the future of their Portuguese captain, Bruno Fernandes. Growing warnings suggest that the club will struggle to offload him for their desired transfer fee, amidst a sharp drop in team results that has left them languishing in 17th place in the Premier League table.
Manchester United are enduring one of the most difficult spells in their recent footballing history, driven by a collective decline in overall performance. This slump has placed Fernandes directly in the crosshairs of media and fan criticism. The Portuguese midfielder has reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with manager Michael Carrick’s tactical approach, coinciding with a noticeable drop in his goalscoring output and overall influence on the pitch compared to previous seasons.
Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepúlveda believes the partnership between both parties has reached its natural conclusion and that the time for a departure has arrived. However, economic constraints and a complex transfer market stand as major hurdles to executing a deal smoothly. Meanwhile, former English football star and talkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has warned Old Trafford executives against overvaluing Fernandes within European football, pointing out that the midfielder has now turned 32.
Speaking on the matter, Cascarino said: “How many players at Manchester United could you sell for £60 million? If we take that figure as a benchmark, who from Old Trafford actually commands that value? Carlos Baleba recently joined Brighton for £70 million, so comparisons can be tricky.”
Commenting specifically on the United captain, he added: “Would Bruno Fernandes leave for £60 million? That might only happen if Saudi Pro League clubs step in. No Premier League club will pay that kind of money; the player is 32 years old, and no one is going to fork out a massive transfer fee alongside a sky-high salary. He has been a fantastic player for Manchester United over the years, repeatedly saving the club from difficult situations with his goals and assists.”
